If you are close to Geneva, Illinois, I will provide door-to-door transportation if necessary.  Our day will normally go a lot like this:

· Depending on the distance to the wedding, and where you live, it can be a one to three hour drive to the venue — sometimes less, rarely more.

· We arrive at the venue 2 to 3 hours in advance of the event, dressed in blue jeans or other appropriate attire for set up.

· We unload the van and go through our setup.  This can take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half.

· We change clothes, unfortunately usually in a public restroom in the venue — occasionally in a private dressing room at the venue.  Gary dresses in a tux, and the proper attire for a female assistant is “what you would wear to a good friend’s wedding.”  You are part of a professional entertainment team, so you should look nice, even elegant.  “Revealing” is okay (not required), but you shouldn’t over do it!    We want to dress as professional, formal entertainers — we help put on the show, but we are not THE SHOW!  That role belongs to the bride and groom.  We are, however, entertainers, and appearance matters!

· We run through the script.  On your first several gigs, there will be training on how to run the equipment.  Once you are comfortable with the equipment and the general flow of a wedding, we can arrive for setup just a little later.

· Guests begin to arrive, and we start cocktail/dinner music.  Depending on Gary’s duties for a particular event, the assistant may have little to do during this time, or many things to do.  From the assistant’s viewpoint, everything is scripted and any changes are handled by Gary.

· There is typically a grand-introduction, and the assistant will start music, adjust mics, etc., on cue.  This will be very thoroughly discussed as part of the setup for each event, and a script is available to the assistant.

· The event moves on with formalities such as toasts, cake-cutting, and blessing.  The assistant will again be following cues at this point.

· Dinner begins, and for almost every wedding YOU GET A FREE MEAL!

· After dinner, another set of formal dances.  Again, anything the assistant is responsible for is on cue from Gary.

· Then the party begins!  Typically there are three to five hours of great dance music with fun people.  The assistant is responsible for minimal guest interaction such as “taking” requests, etc.  The assistant is free to dance and enjoy herself, always checking with Gary before leaving the dj area, and not to be gone for more than a few minutes at a time.  In fact, IF YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT DANCER, you are a leading candidate for this position.

· Bummer!  The party’s over.  We break down the equipment, load the van, and head home.  If you’re hungry, and there’s a place to eat, Gary will buy breakfast on the way home.

That’s it!  This is not a tough job, but it does involve a lot of hours.  We are typically “on site” for 9 to 10 hours, so, not including travel, that works out to somewhere between $10 and $16.50 per hour — not bad!  If you include travel, that can be 2 to 6 hours round trip, and you’re still making more per hour than you would at the local convenience store!

It’s also not a “regular” job.  I book gigs throughout the year, usually with several months notice, but occasionally on pretty short notice.

If you are still interested, give me a call at 630-262-0663 or contact me through email.

Okay, it’s not the best job in the world!  But, Gary is looking for female assistants throughout Northern Illinois.  Each gig pays $100 to $150, depending upon the circumstances, experience, and proven ability over time to be a great assistant.  This is a nice opportunity for college students and other young adults that are willing to give up a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evening from time-to-time in exchange for some food, some fun, and a few bucks!
